Pingnan Third Bridge, presided over by Academician Zheng Jielian, has become the theme for special stamp of China Post on June 30, 2023.

On June 30, the launching ceremony of special stamp of Modern Bridge Construction was held in Pingnan County, Guigang, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. One set of Modern Bridge Construction special stamp includes three stamps and one souvenir sheet. Pingnan Third Bridge, Su-Tong Yangtze River Highway Bridge and Oujiang Beikou Bridge, which were all constructed under the leadership of Zheng Jielian, a professor of School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Guangxi University, were successfully selected as special stamp, and the First Beipan River Bridge was selected as souvenir sheet. It is reported that 7.35 million sets of stamps and 5.85 million souvenir sheets are planned to be issued.

Pingnan Third Bridge is located in Pingnan County,Guangxi,and is a super large bridge project that spans the Xunjiang River on the Liyu Expressway. Compared with cable-stayed bridge and suspension bridge, the concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge was selected due to its low cost, high rigidity and less maintenance costs. The main bridge is a half through concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge with a span of 575m, and its span exceeds all kinds of arch bridges in the world at present. The construction began on August 7, 2018, and was completed and opened to traffic on December 28, 2020. The total construction estimate is 573 million yuan.

The research team of large-span arch bridges led by Academician Zheng Jielian has carried out a series of theoretical innovations and breakthroughs in bridge design, construction, equipment, materials, and so on. They have created multiple internationally leading technologies, ensuring the high-quality and high-tech completion of the Pingnan Third Bridge. Major technical innovations include the creation of a new composite foundation structure of the thrust arch bridge "Diaphragm wall+grouting reinforced pebble layer", which solves the problems of insufficient bearing capacity and excessive settlement of the original pebble layer foundation at the north abutment of the bridge; Force active control to replace traditional stiffness passive control was proposed, achieving a significant reduction in tower weight; The team have also developed a technology for controlling the rheological properties of concrete in pipes and compensating for shrinkage throughout the entire process, which has solved the stubborn problems of debonding and void detachment in steel tube concrete arch bridges.

According to statistics, since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China Post has issued 13 stamps with bridges as their themes, and about 30 bridges have been selected as the content of the stamps, including 12 arch bridges. This special stamp of "Pingnan Third Bridge" is the first time that China Post presents the content of concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge, which reflects the concentrated breakthroughs of Chinese bridge engineers after more than 30-year deep accumulation, represents the highest construction level of modern arch bridge, and further promotes the "bridge card" featuring arch bridge.
