The Pinglu Canal, China's first canal in more than 1,000 years since the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal, is the backbone of the New Western Land-sea Corridor. Its route to the sea crosses the Maowei Sea and involves several environmentally sensitive areas, permanently occupying about 14 hectares of mangrove forests. The major challenge is how to conduct low-impact dredging in ecologically sensitive waters and protect the estuarine wetland ecosystem. Three projects hosted by Guangxi University, such as “Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies of Low-impact Construction and Ecological Restoration of Estuarine Wetland of Pinglu Canal”, have made great contributions to promoting the construction of green canals and building the New Western Land-sea Corridor. All the projects indicate the aspiration to strengthen interdisciplinary integration and integrated innovation. Guangxi University will continue to leverage its advantages as the primary productive force of science and technology, the largest talent pool, and a strong driving force of innovation, and serve the economic entities in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Guangxi University focuses on serving the real economy and meeting industrial needs, aiming to build an application-oriented personnel training system with a close connection, distinctive features, and flexible adjustment that deeply integrates production and education. GXU actively promote the construction of industry institutes such as the Institute of Sugarcane and Sugar Industry, the Institute of Information Security Industry, the Institute of Modern Industry of Architecture and Transportation, and the Institute of Subtropical Intelligent Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Industry, ensuring an effective connection of the education chain, the employment chain, the industrial chain, and the innovation chain. At the same time, considering the needs of local and industrial development, GXU carries out in-depth cooperation with local governments, brother universities, enterprises, and other institutions, and participate in the formulation of talent training standards, teaching content updates, and textbook compilation, constantly cultivating personnel that matches economic and social development.
"'Talent Stays in Guangxi ' is a major strategic goal of the CPC Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which guides graduates from Guangxi University to take their responsibilities to settle in Guangxi and serve the real economy here", said Wang Naixue, Vice Chairman of CPPCC of Guangxi and Secretary of the Guangxi University CPC Committee, when he visited the Guangxi Investment Group Co., Ltd. In the past three years, 168 graduates from Guangxi University have been employed in Guangxi Investment Group and its affiliated enterprises, involving majors of business administration, financial management, finance, mechanical design, electrical engineering,manufacturing and automation, and so on.
At present, Guangxi University is carrying out the theme education of learning and implementing Xi Jinping Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, so that the party members and cadres of the university can fully comprehend Xi’s thoughts and be encouraged to strive for a better future. Also, based on its geographical advantages, GXU promotes the coordinated development of higher education, science, and technology, as well as talents training, focuses on four distinctive themes: ASEAN, Subtropical, Frontier, and Ocean, and strives to improve specialties in four fields: Large-span arch bridge, Sugarcane breeding, Coral reef, and Space exploration". Taking the new round of “Double First-class” construction as an opportunity, GXU will work hard to serve Guangxi and make new contributions, to build a magnificent Guangxi with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
GXU further strengthens information exchanges with local governments, leading enterprises, and industrial associations, and actively participate in various scientific and technological achievements trading and exhibitions. In the past three years, Guangxi University has signed university-region collaboration agreements with 5 cities including Nanning and Beihai and carried out in-depth industry-university cooperation with 15 leading enterprises such as Pinglu Canal Group. Moreover, we hosted and participated in various events such as the Roadshow on sci-tech achievements by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Guangxi sci-tech achievements promotion events, and so on.
In 2022, relying on the strength of advantageous disciplines such as civil engineering, material science, chemical engineering, and mining engineering, Guangxi University signed strategic cooperation agreements with 11 units such as Beihai City, Pinglu Canal Group, Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute, Hua Lan Group and so on. A record high Special Fund for Industry-university-research Cooperation has been set up , totaling 85 million yuan.
