Guangxi, a region known for its abundant calcium carbonate resources, is striving to transform from a resource-rich region to a leading industrial region. This transition requires a sustained focus on scientific and technological innovation, as well as talent development, to further promote collaborative partnerships between academia, industry, and research institutions. The aim is to achieve seamless integration of innovation chains, industrial chains, and market demands.

The “14th Five-Year Plan” for Guangxi’s Science and Technology Innovation explicitly states the need to accelerate the high-end, intelligent, and green transformation of traditional industries. This entails strengthening technological breakthroughs and product innovation in distinctive traditional sectors such as high-end green petrochemicals, eco-friendly premium houses, and top-quality calcium carbonate. The aim is to propel industries towards higher value-added development, fostering the establishment of unique, competitive, and environmentally-conscious industrial clusters.

Guangxi University, in collaboration with scholars and experts from local and international universities and research institutions, has established Guangxi Calcium Carbonate Industrialization Engineering Institute Co., Ltd. Over the course of ten years, this institute has made significant progress. In 2017, it became a member of the Guangxi Characteristic New-type Think Tank Alliance, recognized by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Decision-making Advisory Committee. The institute has successfully undertaken and is currently engaged in thirteen national and regional projects. It has secured twenty-one authorized patents and established ten collaborative innovation centers and industry-academia research bases through partnerships with various enterprises. Moreover, more than twenty research projects and achievements have been jointly conducted, with two projects being honored with the second prize of the Guangxi Scientific and Technological Progress Award and the third prize of the Guangxi Technical Invention Award. These accomplishments have provided substantial technical support for driving innovation in Guangxi's calcium carbonate industry.
