On June 10, the inauguration ceremony of the Sugarcane Bio-breeding Center of the State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-Bioresources was held in Guangxi University. several delegates jointly inaugurated the research center, including Zhang Qifa (academic member of the laboratory and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Qian Qian (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Wang Naixue (vice chairman of CPPCC of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi university), Qian Wei, (director of the Institute of Microbiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Deng Guofu (secretary of the Party group and president of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences), Feng Jiaxun (vice president of Guangxi University), Zhou Changyong and professor Chen Baoshan (both academic members of Guangxi University).

At the inauguration ceremony, Feng Jiaxun congratulated the establishment of Sugarcane Bio-breeding Center. He emphasized that sugar is an important resource that is related to the people's livelihood. The center should aim at upgrading sugarcane breeding methods and breeding systems, developing the core technologies to solve some key problems of making sugarcane, pursue significant breakthroughs in the field of basic biology and biotechnology of sugarcane, and breed new sugarcane varieties with high yield, high sugar and high resistance, so as to ensure the high-quality and sustainable development of China's sugarcane industry. The sugarcane bio-breeding research group should implement the statement of General Secretary Xi Jinping on achieving self-sustainability and self-improvement on science and technology in seed industry, collaborate with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other advanced universities and research institutes at home and abroad, cooperate with leading sugarcane enterprises in the autonomous region to carry out industry-university joint research cooperation, together to build a national strategic scientific and technological force in sugarcane biological breeding.
