From November 10th to 13th, the Academic Seminar on High-Quality Development of the Sugarcane Industry and Exhibition of Sugarcane Quality High-Throughput Testing and Superior Varieties was held in Chongzuo, Guangxi. The seminar was jointly sponsored by Guangxi University, the National Sugar Industry Technology Research and Development Center, the Guangxi Sugar Industry Association, and the B&R International Institute for Technological Innovation in the Sugarcane Industry. Yu Wenjin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangxi University Committee and Vice President of Guangxi University; Lin Lin, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongzuo Municipal Committee and Minister of Publicity Department; Li Xiaodong, Deputy Chief Scientist of the National Sugar Industry Technology System, Director of the Key Laboratory of Genetic Improvement and Germplasm Creation of Sugar Beet Varieties in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region; Chen Changbing, Deputy Director of the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center attended the meeting.
Yu Wenjin welcomed the arrival of the experts and introduced the current development of the sugarcane industry in Guangxi and the efforts and contributions made by Guangxi University in promoting the high-quality development of sugarcane in China, emphasizing the strategic position of the sugar industry in Guangxi's economic development.
Lin Lin pointed out that Chongzuo Municipal People's Government has long attached great importance to the development of the sugar industry, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Chongzuo will focus on improving production capacity, protecting the rights and interests of sugarcane farmers, integrating processing capacity, forging well-known brands, and extending the industrial chain to further expand and strengthen the sugar industry.
Li Xiaodong elaborated on the current situation and prospect of the development of China's sugar crop industry and said that the national sugar industry system is based on the sugarcane industry with Guangxi characteristics, and gives full play to the important role of the sugar industry in promoting the economic and social development of Guangxi.
Chen Changbing pointed out that China's sugarcane industry has made a great breakthrough in the past ten years, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will continue to make efforts from four aspects, including stabilizing the planting area, enhancing policy, scientific and technological support and promoting industrial development for high-quality progress of the sugarcane industry and ensure the safety of sugar supply.
16 experts from the local government, universities, research institutes, and well-known enterprises in the industry made wonderful reports in line with the theme of this event. The participants carried out in-depth exchanges and discussions about the current difficulties and pain points faced by the sugar industry and government policy support, sugarcane germplasm innovation and excellent varieties breeding, and sugarcane production mode exploration in the sugar factory's self-support base.
After the meeting, the delegates visited the sugarcane breeding base of the New Town of Agricultural Science of GXU and visited the display field of new sugarcane varieties bred and the sugarcane quality high-throughput testing system developed by Guangxi University.
