The Global Lecture Series was held at the Junwu Hall of Guangxi University on May 24th. Judge Mary Lim Thiam Suan (Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia), Sundra Rajoo (President of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution, AIADR), and Choong Yeow Choy (Academician of the Academy of Sciences Malaysian) were invited to give keynote speeches. Tian Lihui, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi University Party Committee and Vice President of GXU, attended the meeting.
The speakers respectively introduced the development process and current situation of dispute arbitration procedures in ASEAN countries under the titles of “China ASEAN Commercial Arbitration Collaboration”, “Arbitration in ASEAN”, and “Enforcement of Commercial Arbitration Ruling in ASEAN Countries”. They also shared their insights on how to establish a sound and diversified dispute resolution mechanism and improve the level of legal collaboration between ASEAN and China.
At the conference, GXU and AIADR also held a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and an appointment ceremony for visiting professors. In the presence of Tian and Lim, the heads of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department of GXU and AIADR jointly signed the MOU. The two sides will engage in comprehensive collaboration in international arbitration research, personnel training, and curriculum development. Tian also presented appointment letters for visiting professors to four overseas experts: Mary Lim Thiam Suan, Sundra Rajoo, Choong Yeow Choy, and Chen Xiuting.
This lecture focuses on GXU's cooperation with ASEAN countries in the field of international arbitration. It contributes to the in-depth advancement of its cultivation of foreign-related legal talents, laying a solid foundation for establishing international arbitration courses, expanding teaching resources, and implementing overseas internship programs.
Nearly 300 representatives from the faculty and students at the Law School, as well as legal practitioners from Nanning, attended the conference.
