To implement President Xi Jinping's important directives on strengthening ethnic unity and forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, while celebrating the Third Day of the Third Lunar Month of the Zhuang ethnic group in Guangxi (Guangxi Zhuang San Yue San), Guangxi University (GXU) held its 11th Ethnic Culture Festival series on March 23. Ning Xuchu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of GXU, attended the opening ceremony and declared the event officially open.
Students clad in vibrant ethnic attire danced rhythmically between bamboo poles, showcasing ethnic charm. Lion dances intertwined with dragon performances ignited cheers from the crowd. To the upbeat melody of Happiness Folk Song, hundreds of students in ethnic costumes performed synchronized dances, vividly portraying scenes of harmonious multicultural life and embodying the power of national unity.
The festival buzzed with quintessential Guangxi flair through activities like embroidered ball toss, archery, stilt horse racing, shuttlecock kicking, ethnic fashion shows, and cultural exhibitions. Traditional games drew enthusiastic participation, filling the venue with youthful energy. At cultural display zones, intricate ethnic crafts dazzled the eyes, costume parades mesmerized audiences, aromatic delicacies tempted taste buds, and folk song quizzes sparked lively interactions—immersing attendees in a multidimensional ethnic cultural experience.
Having run for 11 consecutive years, GXU's "Guangxi Zhuang San Yue San" Festivities combine experiential and competitive elements to showcase Guangxi's rich ethnic heritage through diverse channels. It guides students to deeply engage with minority cultures, strengthens cultural identity, and empowers youth to preserve and promote China's excellent traditional cultures.
Concurrently, the university launched its 4th "Cloud Antiphonal Singing" competition, blending online and offline celebrations. Students across departments reinvented traditional folk melodies by infusing them with disciplinary characteristics and academic aspirations, using youthful voices to express cultural confidence, patriotism, and pride in ethnic heritage.
The event was attended by representatives from the Organization Department, Publicity Department, United Front Department, Student Affairs Department, and the University Youth League Committee, alongside over 5,000 teachers and students.
