State Key Laboratory of Featured Metal Materials and Life-cycle Safety for Composite Structures

Introduction

Development history: Supported by Guangxi University, the State Key Laboratory of Featured Metal Materials and Life-cycle Safety for Composite Structures was established in December 2022 based on "Guangxi State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base of Nonferrous Metals and Special Materials Processing", integrating the strengths of materials science and engineering, civil engineering, mining, environment, physics, chemistry, machinery and other disciplines of Guangxi University.

Laboratory positioning: Based on the featured metal materials of Guangxi like aluminum and its industrial and location advantages, the laboratory focuses on the Western Development project, the "Belt and Road" initiative, the New Western Land-sea Corridor, and other national strategies and major regional development needs, gathers high-end talents, and orients to the whole industrial chain paradigm. It aims at the green and efficient utilization of featured metal materials, the design and processing of intelligent manufacturing and characterization of high-performance aluminum alloy, and high-level applied basic research on the major scientific and technical issues in the life-cycle safety of featured composite structures, so as to facilitate the national and regional aluminum and other traditional industrial transformation and upgrading and the special needs of featured metal materials and life-cycle safety composite structure of major projects such as the New Western Land-sea Corridor for national development.

Objectives: To build the world's leading national high-level applied basic research base for the green and deep processing of aluminum and other featured metal materials and the application of new materials as well as the safe service of composite structures, to meet the strategic needs of high-quality development of featured metal materials industry, cultivate outstanding scientists, technicians and other professionals to serve the construction and operation of the New Western Land-sea Corridor and build an international science and technology cooperation platform targeting to joint innovation and development of ASEAN and China.

Research directions: 1. Green development and efficient utilization of metal resources such as aluminum; 2: the design and processing and intelligent manufacturing of high-performance aluminum alloy material; 3. Life-cycle safety design and theory of featured engineering composite structure.

Personnel: There are 207 fixed personnel in total, including 193 researchers, 11 public experimental platform technicians, and 3 full-time management personnel. There are 36 floating personnel and 21 national talents. More than 45% of fixed researchers are under the age of 40. Among the fixed researchers, an innovative talented team led by strategic scientists with reasonable age and professional structure has been formed, which is capable of undertaking major national scientific and technological tasks.
